Denver Broncos star Kareem Jackson receives 4-game suspension for unnecessary roughness
Denver Broncos veteran defensive back Kareem Jackson has made more news than he’d like this season. It has nothing to do with his performance on the field.
That continued on Sunday when Jackson was ejected in Denver’s win over the Green Bay Packers for a hit on tight end Luke Musgrave.
As ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes, the NFL has opted to suspend Jackson a whopping four games for this latest violation of the league’s player-safety rule. It’s the longest suspension a player has received under this umbrella since Vontaze Burfict (12 games) and Myles Garrett (six games) were suspended back in 2019.
Jackson is planning on appealing the suspension.
A first-round pick of the Houston Texans out of Alabama back in 2010, Jackson had received $90,000 in total fines for four separate unnecessary roughness penalties leading up to Week 7.
Jackson’s suspension is noteworthy for a couple reasons. First off, he’s helped Denver defense rebound big time after it gave up 70 points to the Miami Dolphins earlier in ths season. The defensive back has yielded just 128 passing yards through seven games this season.
Secondly, Jackson’s name has been bandied about in the lead up to the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline with the 2-5 Broncos clearly looking like sellers roughly one week out. It will be interesting to see what comes of a potential appeal.

Smith started the season with the New Orleans Saints but got waived while sitting on the IR. He immediately found a landing spot on the Denver practice squad. Meanwhile, Johnson is in his second year with the Broncos. He flashed some playmaking ability earlier in the season, including a two-touchdown game against the Washington Commanders in Week 2.

The Denver Broncos will be one of the biggest teams to watch as the 2023 NFL trade deadline approaches.
This team has certainly had a disappointing season sitting at 1-5. It does not get any easier hosting the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8.
Due to their performance on the field, there is speculation that the Broncos could be sellers at the trade deadline. Two of the biggest players available for other NFL teams could be CB Patrick Surtain and WR Jerry Jeudy.
Surtain could have a particularly high price tag if he is to get traded. According to Albert Breer, the Broncos will have to get more back for Surtain than the Jacksonville Jaguars received when they traded CB Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams. The Jaguars received two first-round picks and a fourth-round pick for him.
As for Jeudy, his price tag does not appear to be quite as high. However, a team is likely going to have to offer a first-round pick to get the Broncos to listen to any offer they might make for Jeudy.
