Ipswich Town Target Premier League Striker
Ipswich Town are reportedly targeting Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge, according to Reach PLC journalist Darren Witcoop.
A new striker is understood to be a priority at Portman Road, with the club maintaining an interest in Everton forward Ellis Sims. The club have also cooled their interest in Portsmouth striker Colby Bishop in recent weeks with latest target for The Tractor Boys appearing to be 24-year-old Surridge, who joined Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest in January 2022 from Stoke City.
The former Bournemouth player made 20 Premier League appearances for Forest last season, with only one start (the opening day fixture against Newcastle United). However he has appeared 50 times for Steve Cooper’s side in all competitions since joining scoring on 11 occasions, seven of which were in the Championship.
Ipswich are hoping to solidify their return to the second tier of English football, with manager Kieran McKenna keen to utilise the summer transfer window. The club announced the signing of Jack Taylor from Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee, but are yet to secure a forward target.
Nottingham Forest have had a huge turnover of players in the last year as the club show their ambition to remain a top flight team. They also deterred any potential bidders for Welsh talisman Brennan Johnson by setting his price at £60 million whilst aiming to continue their spending spreed
Pitching In Isthmian League North Division side Bury have run with young loan goalkeepers from either East Anglian rivals Norwich City or Ipswich Town for the past four seasons, since Luis Tibbles departed for then higher-league Lowestoft Town in the summer of 2019.
Last season saw Ipswich’s Lewis Ridd – who was living at the time on the site of Blues’ new manager Cole Skuse’s house which drew the latter to Ram Meadow as a spectator – start the season as their number one.
But following the teenager being called back from the agreement to be more available for Town’s senior squads, following an injury, they were given a switch to Charlie Woods, who had joined the Portman Road club following a spell at Northampton Town.
