Former Pittsburgh Steelers QB responds to Megan Rapinoe’s controversial comment about God
It has been a rough couple of days for U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe.
Saturday was supposed to be the 38-year-old’s big sendoff from the sport, and she has almost certainly played her final game, but it wasn’t the celebration that it probably should have been. Instead, Rapinoe, who was playing for OL Reign against Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League Championship,
Her team lost the game, 2-1, without her.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Rapinoe has been taking a beating on social media for her postgame comments about God.
“I thought about it a little bit,” she said while talking about what she said was likely a ruptured Achilles. “I mean, I’m not a religious person or anything, and if there was a God, this is proof there isn’t. This is (expletive) up. So, yeah, this is (expletive) up. You know, it’s like, six minutes in and (expletive) eat my Achilles.
That set off many of those who identify as Christians on X, formerly Twitter, and many had some pretty nasty things to say to Rapinoe.
One person who took notice, and responded without beating Rapinoe up or saying something mean-spirited was former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges. The 27-year-old, who has been in the news of late because he is dating country music superstar Lainey Wilson
“Wow,” Hodges wrote. “For those seeing this, just know there is a God and he has wonderful plans for those that believe in him!”
Credit Hodges here for giving his thoughts with class and without attacking the person who he clearly did not agree with on a platform where civility seems to be increasingly rare.

The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Green Bay Packers 23-19. One of the main reasons why they were victorious was their running game. Pittsburgh managed to run for 205 yards despite averaging 90.5 yards per game. Rookie Broderick Jones became the starter two weeks ago and has already proven that he can be the next great tackle for the Steelers.
The Patriots had the 14th pick, the Jets had the 15th pick, and the Steelers had the 17th pick heading into the 2023 NFL Draft. The Steelers traded their 17th and 120th pick to the Patriots in exchange for the 14th pick. The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Broderick Jones in the 1st round, 14th overall.
There were rumors that the Jets wanted to draft Jones 15th overall, but Bill Belichick traded their pick to “mess” with the Jets.
Even though the New York Jets needed an offensive lineman in the draft, that rumor appears to be false because there were reports that Will McDonald IV had a higher draft grade than Jones. They would have stuck with McDonald if Jones was still available.
Dan Moore and Broderick Jones competed for the starting left tackle spot during training camp. Moore took over in first-team reps and was named the starting left tackle. Jones entered his rookie season as the swing tackle.
Right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor exited Week 1 with a back injury, and Jones played the last four snaps of the game. Jones didn’t see any playing time in Weeks 2 and 3.
Jones got significant playing time when Moore went down with an injury during the first quarter in Week 4.
