Post-Joe Burrow 2023 begins today for the Cincinnati Bengals.
The franchise quarterback is scheduled to undergo wrist surgery on Monday, and Burrow is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2024 season, according to officials.
Head coach Zac Taylor made it clear to reporters on Nov.
20 that Burrow’s 2023 season is over, regardless of how far in the playoffs the Bengals advance if they qualify.
The Bengals will play the Steelers in their first game without Burrow today, but the league is also investigating whether Cincinnati should have listed Burrow on the injury report before the Nov.
16 game against the Ravens.
There is.
Burrow was visible on social media hosting until the end of the game and appeared to be wearing a device on his right wrist.
A source familiar with the organization said the Bengals provided the NFL with several hours of footage before the game showing Burrow was healthy.
According to a person who saw the footage, Burrow threw the ball normally without any support during practice and completed all of his normal reps.
It also includes notes from medical personnel showing that Vallow’s injuries were “acute,” as Taylor described them.
According to doctors, it was not an injury that developed over time, sources said.
Barrow told reporters on November 17 that he wore a compression sleeve on the plane to reduce swelling and that the injury had nothing to do with his wrist, which he had never injured before.
Ta.
“That’s quite a different thing,” Barrow said.
Meanwhile, Jake Browning is scheduled to start today against Pittsburgh for the first time in his NFL career, and the Bengals coaching staff plans to use the exact same offense with the exact same play-calling menu with Burrow under center.
.
Browning has the full confidence of his coaches, and while Cincinnati could do a little more to support Browning, he has a complete game plan.
Taylor told reporters last week that Browning’s skills “allowed him to do everything on the menu and he didn’t have to make fun of it just because a new guy came in.
” Ta.
At 27, Browning isn’t young, but he’s also inexperienced, having only played in two games in his career.
Thanks in part to his work in the preseason, he beat out Trevor Siemian in training camp to earn the backup job.
Browning eventually began working with Burrow’s QB guru, Jordan Palmer.
Palmer is the advisor who coached Burrow for years after he remained on the Vikings’ and Bengals’ practice squads since 2019.
Just as Burrow’s speed improved after working with Browning, Browning benefited as Palmer learned to move more efficiently after ACL surgery.
While working with Palmer, Browning imitated Burrow’s movements and learned how to not only work efficiently in the pocket but also succeed from the platform.
This led to his breakthrough in this year’s training camp, where he was given the backup job.
Like Burrow, he has been able to remain calm in key moments, something Taylor noted when Browning sat out the Bengals’ Week 11 game against the Ravens following Burrow’s injury.
That’s why Palmer is optimistic about what Browning can expect.
Coach Palmer said, “Considering Jake Browning’s style of play and the situation he’s in, things are looking good.
” Stay with us and watch Browning try to lead his team to the playoffs.
