Detroit Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones announced Tuesday that he is retiring from the team due to family reasons.
He has since been released by the team, NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported.
“Simply put, I have decided to step away from the team to attend to personal family matters,” he wrote in part of an Instagram post.
“This was not an easy decision to make, but I can’t be the person/player this team needs while caring for my family far away.
” Jones announced that he will be attending Detroit’s Week 7 game against the Baltimore Ravens.
This is the first time this season that he has suspended his activities.
He returned to the Lions for his 12th NFL season, signing a one-year, $3 million contract this spring.
However, the veteran had a poor performance as he only had five receptions on 10 targets for 35 yards and zero touchdowns.
His goals include finishing seventh on the team with injured running back David Montgomery, while Amon-Ra St.
