Sad news: Oddman Out: Rabbitohs center rival should be targeted.
.Odd Man Out: Rabbit’s center rival should be targeted.
Usagito should find a way out.
Jack Wighton’s arrival at Redfern will make him one of the most interesting player moves of 2024.
Wighton’s decision to leave the capital came as something of a surprise, having played his entire career with the Canberra Raiders and having been number five and number eight for many years.
There’s no doubting Wighton’s love for the Raiders.
As well as playing all 242 NRL games, he also opted out of international rugby league in 2023 to focus on getting the club back to the top.
After his departure in , he went on a mission to Canberra.
Of course that didn’t happen.
Wighton were involved in a pitch accident in the elimination final against Newcastle Knights, and the Green Machine were eliminated after a thrilling game.
Whether the Raiders can actually close the gap and face the New Zealand Warriors just six days later is anyone’s guess, but the Knights certainly couldn’t.
However, this marked the end of Wighton’s stay in the capital.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about his decision to step off the green plane was his final destination.
There’s no question about the close relationship between Wighton and Latrell Mitchell, but there are also questions about Wighton’s actual role on Jason Demetriou’s team.
Instead of playing in a 5/8 position, Wighton can also be moved into the middle or used as a centre-forward.
It’s hard to say Wighton is as good in any of these positions as he is in 5th/8th.
He often sailed ahead of Ricky Stewart in Canberra at the end of 2023, so there was space.
Either way, Cody Walker will play for State of Origin in 2023 and is under contract for the next two seasons.
So if Wighton wants to fit in with Barrow, he could take on the role right away.
You’ll have to get used to it.
No matter how you look at it, whether you look at it from a South Sydney perspective or a Wighton perspective, this is a big challenge.
If it works, Demetriou will look like a genius.
It was just what he needed after South Sydney finished 2023 on a very poor note, somehow missing out on a place in the finals despite leading the competition just before half-time.
Otherwise, Demetriou will empty Redfern’s locker.
Not just because of the failures, but ultimately because of the risks he and his recruiting team may never have had to take.
Maybe.
This is a big decision, but Isaiah Tass didn’t make a huge mistake in his 2023 campaign.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Rabbitohs after coming through the Brisbane Broncos and Canterbury Bulldogs systems, has now made 39 NRL appearances for the Reds and Greens since making his debut in 2022.
23 of those games came in the 2023 season, which concludes his career, in which the center reached 124 yards per attempt and recorded 52 tackles on nine tries, nine try assists, and a tackle on the bus.
efficiency is almost 90%, which is an impressive number for a club.
center.
