Latest Oilers December Injury News The Oilers are in a healthy position heading into December, but here’s the latest news on Zach Hyman, Dylan Holloway, and Ryan Fanti.
Injuries have been a big part of the Oilers’ story leading up to and into the 2023-24 regular season.
Whether it’s Matthias Ekholm, Markus Niemelainen, Connor McDavid or whoever, they all had issues that affected the team in different ways.
Fortunately for everyone involved, the team is now in a stronger position.
However, here’s the latest news on what ailments the Oilers are currently dealing with.
Zach Hyman Indeed,
Zach Hyman’s recent absence was due to illness rather than injury.
He was substituted for Tuesday’s game against the Golden Knights because of the flu.
Hyman was listed as an everyday player at the time, but has now returned to the team.
Speaking to the media about his absence after training on Thursday morning, he said: He tried to figure it out during the morning skate, but it just got worse and worse after that.
(It was) a 24-hour absence, but it was good to be back.
The Oilers are certainly relieved that Hyman’s absence was indeed short-lived.
After a career break last season, he led the team with 12 goals and totaled 22 points in 20 games.
Dylan Holloway Dylan Holloway has been on Long Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) since November 15th.
He suffered a knee injury during a game against the Islanders when he lost his balance and slid hard into the goal boards.
Holloway won’t be able to return from LTIR until December 10th at the earliest.
However, as Sports 1440’s Jason Gregor noted at the time of the injury, he is expected to be out for several months.
In general, the center didn’t have the best season before his injury, with just one point (1 goal) in 14 games and a -3 plus/minus rating.
Long term, he’s still expected to be a mainstay in the Oilers’ bottom six.

Ryan Fanti In reality, Ryan Fanti is maintaining the status quo.
At the time of posting, he is still dealing with a hip injury and the next update will be on December 12th.
Fanti has been dealing with his hip issue since arriving at training camp.
It may take some time for him to return to action, but he won’t make an impact on an organization at the NHL level.
But on a personal level, the timing of the injury couldn’t be worse for the 24-year-old, who is expected to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season.
He needs to get back into the box as soon as possible to prove his worth.
Overall, the Oilers are in the healthiest position they’ve been in a while, which speaks to the overall turnaround in the team’s fortunes as of late.
They are still on the losing side with 8 wins, 12 losses, and 1 loss, but they have won their last three games and six of their last nine.
