Texas LB De’Gabriel Floyd announces his medical retirement from football
Due to spinal stenosis, the rookie missed the entire 2019 campaign and is already retired from competition.Freshman linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd of the Texas Longhorns has revealed via Twitter that he had to resign from football due to medical reasons, ending his college football career.
Floyd, a consensus four-star talent from Westlake Village, California, finished his career with a play in the 2019 Under Armour All-American game. Floyd was ranked as the No. 3 inside linebacker and the No. 67 player overall by the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Floyd was barred from practice because of stingers that he had trouble with in high school, even after he enrolled at Texas ahead of schedule. He was eventually found to have spinal stenosis, a congenital constriction of the spinal canal that frequently results in temporary spinal cord injuries such as stingers. As a result, he missed the balance of spring practice and the 2019 football season due to practice absences.

Head coach Tom Herman stated in April, “We’re going to keep evaluating him.” “We’re going to reevaluate him in January and hope nine months of rehab, exercise, and no hitting— I mean, the kid has been hitting that same [way] since he was eight years old playing football,” the statement reads. “Probably not going to be cleared for this season.”
It looks that Floyd’s football career has ended as a result of the review, which took place earlier than January.
