Gwion Edwards: Morecambe signs winger from Ipswich for the remainder of the campaign
Gwion Edwards, a former Ipswich winger, has joined League Two Morecambe on a contract that runs through the end of the year.
Since Wigan dropped him in the summer, the 30-year-old has been without a club.
Edwards attended Crawley and Peterborough in addition to Swansea’s youth system.
He was a member of the Wigan team that advanced to the Championship in 2021–2022, however the following year, he was loaned to Ross County.
“I like to play attacking football, [taking] crosses and shots, so set some goals up and get some goals myself,” Wales youth international Edwards said on the Morecambe website.
“If I’m assisting and scoring goals, I’m doing my job.”

Ipswich Town: Morecambe welcomes former Blue Gwion Edwards
Gwion Edwards, a former winger for Ipswich Town, has joined League Two team Morecambe, where he will play till the conclusion of the 2023–2024 season.
Since Wigan Athletic released the Welshman in the summer following their Championship losing season, he has been a free agent.
Edwards, who made 108 appearances and scored 14 goals at Portman Road, declined a new contract offer from Town in order to sign with Wigan in 2021.
During his two years at the DW Stadium, the 30-year-old was mostly utilized as an impact replacement. He also spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Ross County, a Scottish Premiership team.
He signs with the fourth-tier Shrimps, currently ranked 17th. This weekend, in the FA Cup’s third round, he might make his debut against his old team, Swansea City.
Edwards declared, “I’m delighted to be here and happy to get the deal over the line,” upon his arrival.I was invited to come in and train for a few days [before Christmas]. It was good to meet all the guys and staff and to have a couple of training days.
