Dragic will go down as one of the most hated athletes in Toronto’s history. His connection with the fans soured right away once he signed and traded with the Raptors in 2021, sending Kyle Lowry to the Miami Heat.

He told Slovenian reporters that his goals went beyond playing in Toronto after the trade. Even if he later acknowledged that the remarks were misunderstood and expressed regret, the damage had already been done.Raptors' Goran Dragic Posts Video From Miami Heat Facility - Sports Illustrated Toronto Raptors News, Analysis and More

After the Raptors’ opening game of the 2021–22 season, Dragic was benched. He had started one game for the team. Before being removed from the starting lineup, he participated in all four of Toronto’s opening games. He left the squad for personal reasons in November of that season and never came back.

Although the circumstances behind his leaving were never fully revealed, it was not a positive image for him or the team. Nearly every player on the roster praised Dragic as a wonderful teammate, therefore Toronto never seemed to be displeased with him.
