Good news: At Oregon State, the Nittany Lion wrestlers triumph 36-3 on the road.

CORVALLIS, Oregon — In Corvallis, Oregon, the Penn State Nittany Lion wrestling team (3-0, 0-0 B1G) dominated No. 18 Oregon State (4-2) with a commanding 36-3 road victory. The Nittany Lions won on the road thanks to four second-half technical falls and three significant wins from their rookie class.

An all-time record 8,540 people attended the dual in Oregon State’s Gill Coliseum, a nearly full house for a wrestling event.At 125, true freshman Braeden Davis easily defeated No. 15 Brandon Kaylor to start the dual meet. Davis finished with 2:10 of riding time and three takedowns in an 11-6 victory. Against No. 26 Gabe Whisenhunt, sophomore Aaron Nagao, rated No. 4 at 133, took command of the match and won scrambles en route to a 9-0 major in 2:52 of riding time. Early in, Penn State led 7-0.After battling No. 25 Cleveland Belton throughout regulation, senior Beau Bartlett, ranked No. 2 at 141, used a countertakedown late in extra time to secure a hard-fought 8-5 (sv) victory. Tyler Kasak, a true freshman, won at 149. With a dramatic 4-1 victory and a third-period takedown, Kasak battled hard against No. 12 Nash Singleton to give Penn State a 13-0 lead. Levi Haines, a sophomore who is ranked No. 1 at 157, defeated Isaiah Crosby of Oregon State with two takedowns in the third quarter and a thrilling 10-8 victory. At halftime, Penn State leads 16-0.No. 12 rated freshman Mitchell Mesenbrink (165) gave Penn State a strong start in the second half, defeating No. 10 Matthew Olguin 17-2 via technical fall. In the fight, Mesenbrink recorded four takedowns and a turn, with the last takedown occurring at 3:44. With six takedowns in a decisive 19-3 tech fall against No. 8 Travis Wittlake at 6:32, senior Carter Starocci, rated No. 1 at 174, followed that tech up with one of his own.OSU won its first

match of the dual after graduate Bernie Truax, ranked No. 2 at 184, gave up an early takedown to No. 6 Trey Munoz and lost a tough 5-2 decision. At 4:53 in the second half, senior Aaron Brooks, rated No. 1 at 197, recorded Penn State’s third technical foul. He also had six takedowns in a decisive 19-4 victory over No. 30 Justin Rademacher. Greg Kerkvliet, a senior who is rated first at 285 points, gave Penn State their fourth technical fall of the second half to end the dual meet. In a 21-5 technical fall victory over No. 12 Boone McDermott, he scored seven takedowns at the 5:17 mark.

Nine out of ten fights in Corvallis were won by the Nittany Lions. Penn State was the owner We currently have Penn State at 3-0, 0-0 B1G. Oregon State loses 4-2. Prior to the dual meet, there were two genuine exhibition matches that were not included in the dual score or the wrestlers’ total records. Kekana Fouret was beaten 11-1 by Terrell Barraclough at 165. Mason Christiansen was defeated by Lucas Cochran 22–6 in a technical fall (5:51) at 197.

On Sunday, January 14, the Nittany Lions will play their first Big Ten game of the season when they host Indiana. The duel is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Rec Hall.
