Another Crimson Tide athlete has joined the transfer portal on Monday afternoon, adding to the impact from Alabama’s Saturday deadline to do so. According to Brandon Howard of Rivals.com, junior linebacker Kendrick Blackshire entered his name into the portal over the weekend. In the 2021 class, Blackshire, a former 4-star recruit from Texas, was ranked as the No. 30 overall prospect and the No. 21 overall linebacker in the state.
Over three seasons, the 6-foot-2, 233-pound linebacker had 25 appearances in games, splitting time between reserve linebacker and special teams. On the coverage teams, he was regarded as a powerful hitter who finished with 25 tackles, one forced fumble, and one recovered. He joins Ian Jackson as the second inside backer to log into the portal during this offseason cycle for Alabama.
Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell, who both started at interior linebacker for Alabama, return for the 2024 squad, which will make it more difficult for Blackshire to get meaningful playing time in his final season of college.
