76ers again hold out reigning MVP Joel Embiid against Hawks with knee injury
Philadelphia 76ers, the current MVP, are again forced to miss their game against the Hawks due to a knee injury.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The NBA MVP-winning center from Philadelphia, Joel Embiid, missed the 76ers’ game against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday due to swelling in his left knee.
Embiid has missed two games in a row due to a knee issue, and he has missed six games out of the last eight due to injury. After missing two games due to a right ankle injury, Embiid was sidelined for four straight games. On Friday night, he suffered a knee injury during a 128-92 loss to the New York Knicks.
Despite having lost their previous two games, the 76ers are still ranked third in the Eastern Conference going into their matchup with the Hawks.
Instead of traveling to Atlanta with the team, Embiid worked out in Philadelphia and, in the words of 76ers coach Nick Nurse, is “progressing good.”
“I’m hoping so,” Nurse responded when asked if he thought Embiid would play against Sacramento on Friday. We continue to sort of live day to day.”
The nurse reported that Embiid is “going through ramp-up” activities in order to get ready for play and that he thinks the swelling is under control.
Robert Covington, a forward for Philadelphia, will also miss the game due to swelling in his left knee. After missing a game due to an ankle injury, forward Tobias Harris is back.
Clint Capela, the starting center for Atlanta, will also not play due to pain in his right Achilles tendon. De’Andre Hunter, a small forward, will miss his tenth straight game due to tendinitis in his right knee.

On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers will revisit the Hawks in the Eastern Conference semifinals of 2021 when they travel to Atlanta.
Regretfully, following their incredible Conference Finals Run, the Hawks haven’t accomplished anything.
The Hawks finished the next two seasons with a total record of 84-80, and they are currently playing a pitiful 14-21 this year.
Over the last 20 years, the 76ers have produced more consistent success than the Hawks, despite never making it to the conference finals. The Sixers, trailing Joel Embiid, are a constant challenger.
Unfortunately, Embiid has been ruled out of this game, so you won’t be seeing him in this one.
De’Andre Hunter won’t be present either. On the injury report, Trae Young and Clint Capela are now classified as “day-to-day” due to their injuries.
With the uncertainty surrounding the injuries, this one is difficult to handicap. However, upheaval frequently presents an opportunity.
