The current NFL Draft prospect and former five-star recruit is well aware of the advice he would give to the younger version of himself.
Since Spencer Rattler was a teenager, football fans have had a front-row seat to his quarterbacking journey.
Rattler’s circuitous road—which began with a Netflix documentary, continued with stints as a five-star high school recruit then Oklahoma benched him in favor of Caleb Williams before he transferred to South Carolina—is making yet another well reported stop this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
In anticipation of the 2024 NFL Draft, Rattler arrived in Mobile for this week’s all-star showcase. When asked by NFL Network what guidance he would give to his 17-year-old self, the former five-star recruit didn’t think twice:
“I would definitely advise a 17-year-old myself to maintain the greatest level of humility. I’ve been there. When you’re successful at a young age, you believe you’re amazing. Then you understand that you have to start over in college.”
Top athletes may struggle with confidence, particularly young quarterbacks who are hailed as “the next big thing” from an early age. Rattler’s experiences with hardship since his Netflix days have undoubtedly given him a more mature viewpoint and a certain amount of humility as he gets ready to take his game to the next level once more.
