The Sooners were still permitted to make offers to a transfer portal recruit and a high school prospect on Wednesday in the middle of National Signing Day.
College football teams throughout the nation observed National Signing Day on Wednesday, which kept many staff members busy getting ready for the new class.
But Brent Venables and colleagues continued to be active in recruiting despite the signing day pandemonium. Along with adding another player via the transfer portal, Oklahoma also offered a high school recruit and another transfer target, and the Sooners were able to sign all 27 of their committed 2024 prospects.
With the announcement on Monday that Southeastern Louisiana transfer tight end Bauer Sharp is on his way to Norman, OU added a major player via the transfer portal.
Sharp, who is listed at 6 feet 5 inches and 245 pounds, was the Lions’ starting quarterback until moving to tight end. The adaptable playmaker finished 2023 with 29 receptions for 288 yards and three touchdowns in addition to 133 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
According to PFF, Sharp was the third-highest graded FCS tight end this year. The former high school quarterback was also named FCS Third-Team All-American for his efforts as a redshirt sophomore.
With Jason Llewellyn already in the transfer portal, Austin Stogner’s tenure at Oklahoma drawing to an end, and the tight end group at Oklahoma lacking virtually any production or experience, Joe Jon Finley and staff were in dire need of adding a seasoned presence to the position group.
In 2024, Sharp and incoming freshman Davon Mitchell are anticipated to compete for the position of starting tight end on the team.
The Sooners made an offer to defensive line transfer Anton Juncaj from Albany in addition to Sharp.
A standout performer for the Great Danes in 2023, Juncaj, who is listed at 6-3 and 273 pounds, recorded 55 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, five forced fumbles, and three pass breakups.
In September, this outstanding season featured a two-sack effort against Hawaii, an FBS opponent.
With Isaiah Coe, Jordan Kelley, and Rondell Bothroyd out of eligibility after this season, and Reggie Grimes and Kelvin Gilliam already in the transfer portal, Juncaj would be a major boost to Todd Bates and Miguel Chavis’s d-line room.
Aside from the 27-player class that the Sooners signed on Wednesday, Venables and company still had time to extend a scholarship offer to one high school prospect.
On Thursday, 3-star 2025 athlete Seaonta Stewart picked up an offer from the Sooners.
After his junior season, Stewart, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, received offers from Tennessee, Penn State, and other schools.
Stewart, who plays cornerback mostly, is a Cincinnati, Ohio native who attended Winton Woods High School.
