On Monday, De’Anthony Melton went back to the 76ers’ practice court.

The Philadelphia 76ers have struggled lately with their unlucky health. De’Anthony Melton, the team’s starting shooting guard, has been through some difficult times while he heals from a stiff back.

Melton did not miss a single game for the Sixers in the first several months of the season. It wasn’t until the Sixers hosted the Toronto Raptors on December 22 that he missed his first game. Melton was having trouble with a lower-body injury at the time. Despite his dubious background and desire to participate in that contest, he was given the night off.

Three days later, Melton returned to the lineup, joining the Sixers for their four-game road trip. Over that stretch, Melton averaged 34 minutes on the floor. He knocked down 41 percent of his shots, putting up 15 points per game while coming down with five rebounds and snatching three steals per game on the defensive end. When the Sixers returned home after the New Year to face the Chicago Bulls, Melton got the night off. Then, when the Sixers fired up a back-to-back, beginning with a matchup against the New York Knicks, Melton was ruled out once again.

Nick Nurse had been hoping that Melton would make a comeback in one of the two games in the back-to-back match all week. Sadly, it wasn’t the situation. Before the Utah Jazz game on Saturday, Nurse affirmed that Melton’s recuperation had not encountered any obstacles. Instead, he was simply making less progress than the organization had anticipated at that moment.

Nurse told reporters, “He didn’t quite get enough done last night to let them pass him for tonight.” “I think he would be prepared to play in the next game. We have a few more days left. He’ll be prepared for the subsequent one.

The Sixers held a practice on Monday morning after their return to the facility. Melton was, of course, a participant. For the first time since his last appearance, Melton spoke with media after his first session back and provided an encouraging update on his condition.

Noah Levick of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports that Melton informed reporters early on Monday morning that he felt better. The seasoned guard remained mum regarding his availability for Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, but given his recent return to practice and Nurse’s expectations based on his remarks on Saturday, Melton might be on track to make a comeback to the starting lineup.

Melton has made 31 appearances for the Sixers this season. The seasoned player has averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals while playing 29 minutes a night.
