After Folarin Balogun claim is made West Ham can’t hesitate to sign the Arsenal striker
Fabrizio Romano claims Aston Villa are about to make an ‘amazing’ signing
Aston Villa have been heavily linked with Pau Torres in recent weeks.
For instance, the Daily Mail reported in June that Villans boss Unai Emery wanted a reunion with the Villarreal ace.
At the start of last week, Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that Villa had ‘done and sealed’ a move for Torres.
A few days later, Super Deporte claimed Torres would be arriving at Aston Villa ‘next Tuesday’ to join.
That report is proving to be accurate, as the Spain international appears to be travelling to England today.
Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Villa’s pursuit of Torres, taking to Twitter with the news.
“Pau Torres, finally on his way to England as he’s at the airport prepared to travel to Birmingham,” wrote Romano.
“He will be unveiled as new Aston Villa player on five year deal very soon.”
Villa have enjoyed a superb 2023 so far, embarking on a run of form that saw them qualify for Europe.
This summer, the Villans are doing just as well on the recruitment and transfer front.
They’ve already landed Youri Tielemans, a superb Premier League-proven midfielder, on a free transfer.
Villa are now seemingly closing in on another huge statement of intent in Torres, who is an outstanding player.
The Spaniard has been labelled an ‘amazing’ defender.
He has an impressive record for Villarreal over the years and has also won 23 caps for Spain.
Emery is a big fan of Torres and it’ll be great to see those two reunite.
It doesn’t look like Villa fans will have to wait long for an announcement either.
Everton continue to “insist” on a deal for Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto this summer, but Aston Villa are showing “no intention of letting go” of their chase.
Reports in Italy claim that the Toffees have reached an £18m agreement for the Italy international following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship, but Aston Villa are also tracking the winger.
And according to Calciomercato journalist Alessio Lento, they could be prepared to hijack the deal as they aren’t prepared to let go of the 19-year-old.
“Future in the Premier League for the National of Mancini, Wilfried Gnonto: Everton insists, but Aston Villa and Emery has no intention of letting go,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (11 July).
“It’s a hot hour.”
There hasn’t been much talk of Gnonto to Everton in England, but in Italy it seems to be a very hot topic and there is rarely smoke without fire.
Talk of an agreement may well be a little bit premature, but the quicker Everton can get a deal sealed and signed the better because if Villa come in too then it will make things difficult.
Financially we simply can’t compete with them right now and they’re also at the opposite end of the table to us and preparing to play in the Europa Conference League in the upcoming season.
Gnonto would be the absolute perfect signing for the type of thing we need, with an exciting style but also smart decision-making and efficiency to go with a fairly moderate transfer fee in the process.
But the longer we leave it to be completed, the more likely it is that someone will step in and hijack the deal, and then we’ll be kicking ourselves for not getting it done sooner.
