This week, the Green Bay Packers appointed a new defensive coordinator. Jeff Hafley is back in the NFL after almost five years as the Boston College Eagles’ head coach. Hafley felt cut out of the college football world, so he decided to give the professionals another go. According to ESPN, Hafley just wants to devote more of his attention to teaching football and less time to the complexities of college recruitment, particularly in light of NIL’s advent.
Many supporters are thrilled about Hafley’s potential to improve the Packers’ defense. But it was revealed today that Green Bay had extended an offer to a different party before taking Hafley on.
In order to replace outgoing defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, the Ravens promoted inside linebackers coach and former linebacker Zach Orr from within.
Orr had an interview with the Packers on Tuesday, and according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, they were prepared to make him an offer.
In the end, the decision was made for him to stay in Baltimore, and the Ravens consented to his continued employment there.
The 31-year-old, who has coached for the NFL since 2017, is regarded as one of the best defensive coordinators in football. Since taking over as the inside linebackers coach for the Ravens in 2022, he has received a lot of praise for turning Roquan Smith and Patrick Queen into one of the best linebacker tandems in the NFL. Both players were selected for the Pro Bowl in 2023.
