Unfavorable news: Lakers starting player will remain until next season…..

According to Yahoo! Sports’ Jake Fischer, only the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz have made serious proposals to the Atlanta Hawks for one-time All-Star Dejounte Murray.

Fischer provided the most recent updates on the Murray predicament during a recent podcast interview with NBA insider Marc Stein.

The Lakers and Utah are the only teams whose offers I’ve really heard about, and the Lakers don’t have a clear, obvious package that will give the Hawks the picks they want, the player they want, and a player who doesn’t have what is thought to be a bad long-term salary, according to Fischer.

Murray has an imminent contract extension that extends through the 2026–2027 season (and has a player option for the 2027–2028 season), therefore the Lakers and Jazz may consider trading for him as a long-term option.

Murray is scoring 21.5 points, pulling down 5.1 rebounds, dishing out 5.2 assists, and shooting 36.8 percent from outside the arc and 46.8 percent from the field this season.

Murray may be a useful addition for the Lakers at guard, but it would probably require the team to let go of D’Angelo Russell.

Recent reports indicated that Russell was playing well and that a Lakers trade for Murray was on the decline. On that front, it’s unclear where things are right now. After winning on the road against the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, the squad is officially back over.500.

Since Murray is signed with the organization through the 2020–21 season, Atlanta may choose to hold off on making a move until the offseason. Since they have the option to keep Murray and use him in the backcourt alongside Trae Young for the remainder of the season, it is possible that the Hawks won’t accept a weak offer.

With their current four-game winning run, the Hawks have improved to 22-27 on the season. As the trade deadline draws near, Atlanta is ranked 10th in the Eastern Conference.

The Lakers would love to see some more postseason success this season after reaching the Western Conference Finals the previous one. To advance in a competitive Western Conference, the team may need to make a trade as it is currently only the 9th seed in the West. With less than a week until the deadline for this season, it will be interesting to see how the trade market for Murray plays out.
