Prior to the NHL trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs ought to make an effort to improve their lineup.
They need to improve on a few areas, but does Toronto Leafs general manager Brad Treliving have the resources to make the required changes? Alternatively put, is he at ease selling the possessions he does own?
The Leafs will be linked to every player under the sun as the NHL approaches the trade deadline.
Treliving should prioritize strengthening the Leafs defense above all else. The Leafs are most in need of assistance in that area. I wouldn’t, however, rule out the Leafs bringing in a goaltender or even a depth forward. Everything hinges on Treliving’s level of assurance with this Leafs squad.
The Leafs’ top tradeable assets at the sale deadline this year are their 2024 first-round selection, Matthew Knies, Fraser Minten, Easton Cowan, and Timothy Liljegren. Maybe even Joseph Woll, if they made a major investment in a top goalie.
Although Liljegren and Knies are players other clubs ask about, I don’t see Treliving trading them
This post is the first of four that will examine potential trade targets for each division. Since these clubs are usually the sellers, I will concentrate on those who do not currently have a playoff place. Now let’s examine potential trade targets in the Atlantic Division.
