Seven-Round Packers Mock Draft 1.0: Addressing Secondary & Running Back
From now until the NFL Draft, we will run our own mock drafts every Wednesday to see how Brian Gutekunst could address his team’s issues in April.
Welcome to the offseason.
The Green Bay Packers’ offseason began a little less than a month ago, following a disheartening loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional playoffs. Since then, they’ve hired a defensive coordinator and begun to look ahead to 2024 as a season in which they may finally make it to Super Bowl Sunday for the first time since February 2011.
We will conduct our own mock drafts every week until the end of April to model how general manager Brian Gutekunst may address his perceived requirements to help supplement his squad.
This week, we tried the Pro Football Focus simulator.
Here’s how things turned out.
Round 1, Pick 25: Ennis Rakestraw, Jr., Cornerback, Missouri
Rakestraw was supposed to be one of the guys to take the Senior Bowl by storm, but he was unable to compete due to an injury that is not considered to be a long-term issue.
Jaire Alexander will join the cornerback room under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley.

Graham Barton is unquestionably a Green Bay Packer offensive lineman. He is positionally versatile, having played both inside and outside in college.
His arms are shorter, which may indicate that he may play guard or center in the NFL.
The Packers might have a need for either of those positions.
Josh Myers, a center, is entering his contract year after struggling with inconsistency in his first three seasons. If Jon Runyan goes for free agency, Sean Rhyan will receive the first opportunity at right guard. In 2023, he played 183 snaps in 12 games.
Under Brian Gutekunst, the Packers selected Elgton Jenkins with the 44th overall pick, and he started as a rookie. They also spent a second-round pick on Myers. Gutekunst has not hesitated to attack the inside of his offensive line early and frequently.
Barton might provide that skill, as well as the versatility to play tackle if the club is in need.
Round 2, pick 58: Jonathan Brooks, RB, Texas.
Dane Brugler’s draft rankings for The Athletic did not include a running back in the top 69 in the class.
