According to reports, Miami’s vacancy as defensive backs coach will be filled by Marshall’s Chevis Jackson.
d the two are now set to reunite in Coral Gables.
Lance Guidry brought in a well-known player to cover for Jahmile Addae, who is now heading to the NFL, to help the Hurricanes.
Chevis Jackson, the defensive backs coach at Marshall, is reportedly slated to be hired by Miami to fill the position of defensive backs coach. The claim was originally published by CaneSport and the Miami Herald. Before Guidry left to join Miami for the 2023 season, Jackson and Guidry collaborated for a single season in 2022.
Former player Jackson attended LSU for four seasons prior to being selected in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. With five interceptions, Jackson was second on the squad that won the 2007 National Championship. Before beginning his coaching career in 2013 as a graduate assistant at South Alabama, he would go on to play three seasons in the National Football League.
Jackson hasn’t had positional coaching positions at many prestigious schools, but his playing career should help him attract the best defensive backs in the country. Despite not being as successful as Jason Taylor in the pros, his collegiate performance will allow him to command respect in the defensive back room.
Due to Addae and Tim Harris Jr.’s offseason departures, Miami currently has a full complement of coaches. The start of spring ball is scheduled for the upcoming weeks.
