The Steelers Have a New Quarterback Option
Another player has been mentioned as a possible Pittsburgh Steelers starter.
Pittsburgh While they continue to hope that Mason Rudolph will re-sign, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a quarterback, or at least competition for Kenny Pickett. Another name has come up as a possible candidate.
The Steelers’ quarterback carousel has a new rider according to NFL commentator Rich Eisen. The club may sign former Las Vegas Raider Jimmy Garoppolo to be Pickett’s backup if they are unable to get Rudolph.
When questioned about Garoppolo’s final destination, Eisen said, “Maybe he’s a guy who winds up in Pittsburgh.” “Supporting Kenny Pickett? To be honest.
Due to his violation of the NFL’s rules regarding performance-enhancing drugs, Garoppolo may miss two games of football. Before the middle of March, the Raiders are anticipated to release him, bringing an end to his one-year stay in Vegas.
Rudolph is now the Steelers’ top choice, and if given a fair chance, they think he may be the starting quarterback in 2024. But according to sources, he could be seeking for a new job this summer, which would leave Pittsburgh needing to find another experienced quarterback.
Eisen thinks Garoppolo could enter the game with backup aspirations, but Pittsburgh might have another quarterback capable of starting by the end of it.
“Remember when Jimmy Garoppolo, the quarterback in question, was told you’re so far gone, we’re not even giving you a playbook at the start of training camp,” Eisen said. “And he got signed after training camp. and ultimately became the starter. Saying that his time as a starter is finished will get you nowhere.”
Garoppolo, who is 32 years old, has a 43-20 record as an NFL starter, with 94 touchdowns and 51 interceptions. 2019 saw him lead the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl, but it was also the only season he played every game without missing.
With one caveat, Patrick Peterson is open to the Steelers coming back.
