On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed a running back who helped the Kansas City Chiefs win their previous two Super Bowls. The signing came amid uncertainty for the Steelers’ backfield for the 2024-25 seasons.
The Steelers have a few question marks on offense for the next offseason. QB1 (Russell Wilson) and QB2 (Justin Fields) are under contract for only this season. An insider has predicted that the Steelers will extend Fields before the 2025 season.
The Steelers are expected to lose Najee Harris before the 2025 season after they declined his fifth-year option. As previously discussed on GH, there are trade rumors surrounding Harris as the Steelers could look to recoup draft capital before parting with their 2021 first-round pick:
Recently, there have been rumors swirling around the NFL that the Steelers might be open to trading Harris. That has not been confirmed, but it’s something to continue monitoring.
CBS Sports took a look at the potential suitors that could emerge if the Steelers did start openly shopping Harris. The Las Vegas Raiders were one of the teams that were placed on the list.
“After losing Josh Jacobs in free agency, the Raiders’ running back situation is murky. Harris would provide much-needed stability while joining a backfield that is currently led by Zamir White and former Viking Alexander Mattison. The issue here is what the Steelers would get in return. Would the Raiders be interested in dealing Davante Adams? If they were, this would be a slam dunk for Pittsburgh, even if it has to sweeten the pot in order to get a deal done. ”
The team added depth to the position with Harris’ future with the Steelers remaining murky during OTAs. Per a statement by SportsTrust Advisors, the Steelers signed La’Mical Perine. The Steelers now have Harris, Perine, Jaylen Warren, Cordarrelle Patterson, Jonathan Ward, Aaron Shampklin, and Daijun Edwards on the roster at running back before training camp.
