NFL Network’s Judy Battista issued a strong caution to Pittsburgh Steelers supporters who are upset about coach Mike Tomlin’s alleged lack of success.
Mike Tomlin has coached the Pittsburgh Steelers for 17 years, and throughout that time he has never had a losing season. I’ll say it again: never had a losing season. That’s a very large victory. Judy Battista of NFL Network says she doesn’t get why some Steelers supporters are so angry with the coach.
Steelers supporters were cautioned by Battista on The Insiders to “be careful what you wish for.” “There are a ton of NFL teams that could achieve the kind of success that Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers have enjoyed. Furthermore, he just finished what is maybe one of his greatest coaching seasons.
Even though the Steelers haven’t had the best teams or a postseason victory since 2016, Tomlin has always managed to pull it off.
“Players still relate to him, even though he will have been in the position for more than 20 years when this contract expires,” Battista added. “He still has the ability to inspire players, and last season’s dire quarterback situation is the best example of that.”
And she is not incorrect, if we are all being truthful. Even at No. 20, Kenny Pickett was a waste of a first-round draft selection. There were very few quarterbacks selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, and after two seasons in the league, hardly a single prospect has accomplished anything.
I could go on forever, and it would still be the same point. Compared to most NFL coaches, Mike Tomlin has accomplished more with less. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, so don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
