Jacque Vaughn, the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, was sacked, the franchise announced on Monday.

Since 2016, Vaughn has been employed by the Nets, first as Kenny Atkinson’s top assistant coach and then as the team’s temporary head coach following Atkinson’s firing. Vaughn became Steve Nash’s associate head coach after the latter took over the Nets in September 2020. In November 2022, Nash was sacked, and Vaughn was named the interim coach once more. The group then gave him a permanent post.

During the 2022–23 season, the Nets won 43 of their 75 games played under Vaughn, placed sixth in the Eastern Conference, and made it to the playoffs, where they were defeated 4-0 by the Philadelphia 76ers in the opening round.

Prior to Vaughn’s terrible performance, the team’s record was 21–33. They also lost their last game before the All-Star break, 136–86, against the Boston Celtics. As of right now, they are 2.5 games behind the Atlanta Hawks in 10th place in the East and the play-in tournament zone.
