Tottenham Hotspur will not be hijacking Nicolas Jackson’s move to Chelsea as he prepares to sign an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Nicolas Jackson is ready to sign a long-term contract with Chelsea as rumours of a move from Tottenham Hotspur amount to nothing.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Jackson is signing a deal with Chelsea until 2031.
The Blues have been handing out eight-year contracts on a regular basis in 2023 as they place a keen focus on amortisation.
Jackson is the latest to be given a very long contract and Romano claims that the Villarreal forward has already done his medical.
Romano notes that Chelsea are paying €37million (£32million) to sign Jackson, which is actually more than his release clause.
Chelsea are choosing to pay more overall and spread the coast over a number of years, rather than activating the clause and paying the money in one go.
Jackson’s move will seemingly be confirmed imminently, meaning there will be no hijack from Tottenham.
Nicolas Jackson to Tottenham rumours amount to nothing
Jackson has emerged as a key Chelsea target for a couple of weeks now but there were rumours of interest from Tottenham too.
The Sun on Sunday (18/6, p62) reported that Tottenham were looking to make a move for the Senegal ace.
Spurs are seeking attacking additions this summer and allegedly looked into signing Jackson.
However, Jackson is heading for Chelsea as he either didn’t fancy Spurs or Tottenham didn’t actually make a move.
Jackson, 22, was superb this past season as he bagged 12 goals in 26 La Liga games.
An exciting forward with a big future ahead of him, Jackson could have been a great support player for Harry Kane in attack.
Instead, Tottenham will now face Jackson in derbies against Chelsea – and will hope that he doesn’t become a thorn in their side under
