Confirmed: Stoke City reveal fifth summer signing

Stoke City have confirmed the return of defender Ki-Jana Hoever on loan from Wolves.

The 21-year-old returns to the bet365 Stadium having spent the second half of last season with the Potters, making 15 appearances in the Championship. Having played at left-back during his temporary spell, he quickly became a fan favourite and now returns for a second loan term.

Hoever has signed a new contract at Wolves and immediately re-joins Stoke. The deal reportedly has a January recall option, and he will be reportedly followed to the club by Wolves teammate Chiquinho, a 23-year-old winger.

Dutchman Hoever becomes Alex Neil’s fifth signing of the summer, following the permanent arrivals of Enda Stevens, Ben Pearson, Michael Rose and Daniel Johnson.

“Ki-Jana showed his ability to be influential within the system that Alex operates last season,” said Technical Director Ricky Martin.

“It has always been our intention to bring him back to Stoke City this summer and, while we have had to show patience to finalise his return, we are delighted to have him in the building ahead of the new season.

“We believe there is more to come from Ki-Jana and, having seen the positive impression he made on our supporters over the course of a few months, we look forward to seeing his development over the course of a full campaign.”

New Stoke City signing Ki-Jana Hoever has revealed the support from Potters fans was “influential” in his decision to re-join the club.

Hoever has returned on a season-long loan deal from Wolves, having spent the second half of last season on loan at the bet365 Stadium. He becomes the fifth inbound transfer of the summer.

Speaking about his return to Stoke, Hoever spoke of his delight at the move, how he felt about his time at the club last year and what he wants to get out of the season ahead.

“I loved it here last season so I was pleased when I knew there was an opportunity to come back,” he told Stoke City.

“The support from the fans has been influential in my decision to return. I have seen a lot of positive messages on social media from the supporters and I want to play where I am loved and appreciated.

“Last year, I arrived in the winter and, while it was a difficult season, we showed a good run of form and the qualities that this team can produce. This year, I am delighted to be here from the start and want to consistently help the team over the full season, not just for a few months.”
