Norwich City transfer news: Jamal Lewis interesting Watford
Norwich City academy graduate Jamal Lewis is a transfer target for the Canaries’ Championship rivals Watford, according to reports.
The left-back has long been out of favour at Newcastle United, and is the subject of interest from the Hertfordshire club on a loan basis, claim the Daily Mail.
Lewis played 62 minutes of the Magpies’ 2-1 pre-season win over Glasgow Rangers on Tuesday, but played just nine Premier League minutes last season and was left out of their squad to allow for newly signed players in January.
The Hornets have already made four signings ahead of the 2023-24 second tier season, including experienced duo Tom Ince and Jake Livermore from Reading and West Brom respectively.
Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe left the door open to a second chance for the 25-year-old when asked about him in May, but admitted that there was no certainty to his situation, saying: “The future is a little bit unclear for him.
“He’s very much a valued member of our squad at the moment. I’m very aware I’ve not been able to give him the football he wants this season but I would say his game has developed behind the scenes.
“The work he’s put in behind the scenes every day to improve himself with the coaches here has been brilliant to see. His game has been in a really good place, just I haven’t been able to give him the opportunities to show that.
“He’s someone we value and believe in. As I sit here now, I don’t know what the future will hold for him next year.”
Lewis played for City’s senior side between 2017 and 2020, having joined the club’s academy as a 16-year-old in 2014. He made 100 appearances in yellow and green, playing a key role in the club’s 2019 Championship title and promotion to the Premier League.
The Northern Irishman, who has been capped 30 times and remains a regular at international level, joined Newcastle for around £15million in the summer of 2020, following City’s relegation back to the Championship.

Mayhem ensued when hundreds of children flocked to the town centre on the last day of school term.
In several videos shared across TikTok, and seen by the Watford Observer, dozens of police and security officers can also be seen trying to defuse the situation.
The footage was taken on Friday, July 21, in various places in Watford including the Atria shopping centre near the cinema and along the High Street.
In one of the videos a group of teenagers can be seen falling over as the crowd runs away from one of the shops.
A boy can also be seen throwing at drink at the front of a bus in another video.
In other clips children can be seen being taken into a police van.
At one point there is footage of two boys standing on the back of a bus while it is moving.
One woman posted on Facebook what she saw while in the town centre describing large groups of children “causing trouble” and it being “very wrong”.
She explained how the entrance doors to shops had to be “taped off” and a “shopkeeper had to break off from serving to stop kids helping themselves to drink machines, going to walk out and when challenged they say, ‘it’s free’”.
She added that some groups of children were “minding their own business”, while others “we encountered were very rude and abusive in their comments when just asked if they could move aside to let people pass”.
A police spokesperson said they were called to reports of a large crowd of young people causing disturbance inside Atria shopping centre just before 2.25pm.
They added: “Officers immediately attended the scene and worked in liaison with the atria centre security staff to manage the crowd, as well as ensure the safety of the wider public.”
A section 35 dispersal order was put in place to prevent further anti-social behaviour, meaning those involved were required by police to leave the area.
“Officers continued to patrol and monitor the situation throughout the afternoon however the majority of the young people had left the area of their own accord by 5pm,” they said.
