NEWS UPDATES;Crystal Palace super star ‘close to signing a £20m-a-year contract for Galatasaray

Galatasaray are ‘close to signing Wilfried Zaha’ on a free transfer, with the winger set to pen an £8m-a-year contract after his Crystal Palace contract expired

Turkish champions Galasaray are ‘nearing an agreement to sign former Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.’

The 30-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract at Selhurst Park ended this summer.

As revealed by Mail Sport on Saturday, he has been offered an £8 million-a-year deal by the club, who has continued to train with Palace as a free agent as he recovers from the hamstring injury that brought a premature end to his 2022-23 season.

According to the Athletic, a number of clubs are interested but Galatasaray lead the race for Zaha, although a deal is yet to be agreed.

He has been the subject of interest and enquiries from clubs in Saudi Arabia, Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli, Lazio and fellow Turkish giants Fenerbache.

Zaha leaves Palace after a 19-year association with the club that started when he was 12-years-old.

The Ivory Coast begun his career with the Eagles when they were a Championship side, but left for Manchester United in 2013.

With opportunities limited at Old Trafford, he returned to South London in 2014 and racked up 74 goals in 314 games during his second spell at the club.

Zaha is a free agent following the expiry of his contract at Crystal Palace and though the Eagles have put a new deal offer in front of him, he is yet to sign it.

The winger has already held talks with Fenerbahce and Al Nassr, and has been expected to make a decision on his future soon – but now another club are in the mix.

Fenerbahce’s fierce rivals Galatasaray have issued a statement, confirming they have opened talks with Zaha.

Galatasaray said in a statement: “Official negotiations have started regarding the transfer of professional football player Dazet Wilfried Armel Zaha to our club.”

The Istanbul giants will hope to be able to win the race for Zaha and convince him to put pen to paper.

Zaha has been taking his time over his next destination and Galatasaray’s entrance into the race is a further twist in the tail.

Crystal Palace had been hopeful that Zaha would sign a contract to remain at Selhurst Park.
