NEWS BOOST;Millwall youngster heads out on loan to National League club

Millwall manager provides squad injury update as he looks ahead to Charlton friendly

MILLWALL youth star Nana Boateng has been sent on loan to Woking in a deal until January.

The 20-year-old was an integral part of the Lions’ successful under-21 team that triumphed in the Professional Development League last season.

The forward has now taken the next step in his career by heading to the National League side for six months.

Woking have spent the last four years in English football’s fifth-tier after being promoted from the National League South in the 2018-19 season.

They will have promotion on the mind again after losing 2-1 in last season’s play-off quarter-finals to Bromley.

Boateng has spent his entire career at Millwall after first joining the club’s academy at the age of seven.

His one senior appearance for the Lions was in a 2-1 FA Cup third round defeat to Crystal Palace in January 2022 when he came off the bench in the final minutes of the game.

GARY Rowett has revealed Danny McNamara will miss tonight’s friendly clash with London rivals Charlton.

The full-back has a minor quad injury that could keep him out until the end of the week.

The Millwall boss said: “Danny McNamara missed out on the weekend and I think he’s going to be out until probably later on in the week so I don’t think he’ll be available for the game.

“Coops missed out on Saturday with the behind closed doors game [against Bromley]. He just felt something in his quad but he should be fine.

“Again tomorrow night we’ll go with a strong team. We’ll make some changes to make sure people get enough game time and in some other positions we might have to keep players just due to the fact we’ve go low numbers for those positions.”

Rowett said he will be using the game to build on pre-season work rather than worrying specifically about the threats Charlton may pose.

He added: “Dean [Holden] will have them very well organised and like any League One side, they’ll have players that can hurt you. It’s another game for us, another step in our preparation.

“As much as I respect Charlton, I’m not necessarily going to be looking at what they’re going to do. It’s more about trying to build on what we need to do.

“They’ll pose us different challenges and after the game there will be some different learning opportunities. What I will say is it will be very close to a Championship game and that’s the next step for us. That’s the main for us. We’ve only got this game and Saturday’s game [against Fortuna Sittard] left.”
