Manchester United respond to West Ham interest in Scott McTominay with huge asking price for midfielder
Manchester United will demand a fee of around £45million Scott McTominay with West Ham United keen to sign the midfielder.
The Hammers are weighing up a move for the 26-year-old as they seek to bring in a replacement for Declan Rice, having sold their skipper to Arsenal for £105million.
David Moyes is am admirer of McTominay but West Ham will have to pay big to bring him to east London, with United not actively looking to sell their academy graduate.
The Daily Telegraph report it would take an offer of around £40m to £45m to tempt United into doing business.
Erik ten Hag is happy to keep McTominay, viewing him as a valuable squad player and is only ready to sanction his exit if the money is right.
The Scot is open to staying at Old Trafford but wants to be playing first-team football next season and would not be satisfied with a role that sees him sitting on the bench.
The player will not rush into any decision any may wait to see how United’s squad looks nearer to the end of the transfer window but could be tempted by an offer elsewhere.
McTominay started United’s first seven league games last season but following Casemiro’s introduction into the team after his arrival from Real Madrid, was handed just a further four starts.
Mason Mount has since joined United’s numbers in midfield with Kobbie Mainoo likely to remain part of the first-team squad after impressing ten Hag.
United are also thought to be keen on signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat if they can raise further funds through player sales.
West Ham meanwhile are also interested in signing United defender Harry Maguire but as the case is with McTominay, United view him as a valuable squad member.
Maguire was recently stripped of the club captaincy with West Ham thought to be exploring either a loan or permanent deal.
The England international’s wages could be problematic, however, were the clubs to agree a deal.

The forward enjoyed a strong loan spell in the 2021/22 season with Southampton, managing 10 goal contributions in 39 games and recording a WhoScored average rating of 6.59 in the Premier League. The striker’s performances caught the eye of Premier League legend Alan Shearer, who said to Premier League Productions. “Let me tell you, this lad is clinical, His goal against Brentford made him the youngest player in Premier League history to score in each of his first four home starts. As a striker, it’s all about taking chances and scoring goals, so stats like this tell me he can thrive in the Premier League. Broja is a young striker with an eye for goal and has a bright future in the Premier League.”
The forward, who has been hailed as the “fastest man in the world” by Raheem Sterling, returned to parent club Chelsea ahead of the 2022/23 season hoping to nail down a starting spot and cement his place in the Blues side, however, the forward managed just three starts in all competitions before a devastating knee injury in a friendly against Aston Villa ruled him out for the rest of the season.
