Everton transfer latest as talks over midfielder set to test Sean Dyche plan
Plymouth Argyle are in talks with Everton over a move for Lewis Warrington.
The Championship side is seeking a loan move for the 20-year-old, who came on in the second half of his club’s pre-season friendly at Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday.
The starlet has been acquiring experience at increasingly high levels over the past 18 months – spending half a season in League Two with Tranmere Rovers and then all of the most recent campaign in League One at Fleetwood Town.
The departure of Tom Davies from the club has opened a spot in the first team squad for a central midfielder to emerge and Warrington has been under consideration for that role – starting the friendly against Stade Nyonnais in Switzerland earlier this month.
Whether Sean Dyche sees him as a viable option for the first team squad at this stage in his development will be tested by the interest of Plymouth.
Led by former Blues youth player Steven Schumacher, Plymouth have already turned to Everton to strengthen after the club’s impressive promotion from League One. Earlier this summer the south coast outfit secured centre back Lewis Gibson after his decision to leave the club he joined aged 17.
Schumacher now hopes Warrington, who was only allowed to leave on the final day of the summer transfer window last season as Frank Lampard considered whether he could play a role within the senior squad, will link back up with Gibson and strengthen the Pilgrims ahead of their Championship campaign.
Warrington enjoyed a successful season at Fleetwood under the tutelage of iconic Scotland and Celtic central midfielder Scott Brown.
He made the switch after he made his first team debut for Everton in the Carabao Cup game against Brown’s side in the opening weeks of last season.

Almeria striker El Bilal Toure is set for a move to Atalanta this summer despite strong interest from Everton according to Fabrizio Romano, but trusted Everton journalist Alan Myers has now provided his update on the situation.

This news follows reports that Brian Brobbery would snub an Everton move in favour of staying with Ajax, while Victor Boniface approaches a move to Bayer Leverkusen despite interest. The news of Toure’s decision will feel all too familiar to Everton fans this summer.
The Toffees have made further signings upfront a priority this summer, and will still target new strikers following the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma on loan, as they look to solve their attacking issues that saw them score the second-lowest tally of goals in the Premier League last season.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has long suffered from injury issues, while last season’s key striker signing Neal Maupay has proved to be profligate in front of goal, as the duo found the net on a combined three occasions last season, despite playing 44 games between them.
