Burnley to complete deal for proven Premier League winger after successful trial
Burnley are reportedly poised to sign former Everton star Andros Townsend on a free transfer after he impressed on trial with the club.
The 32-year-old former Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Newcastle attacker is currently a free agent after leaving Everton at the beginning of July after his Goodison Park contract expired.
Townsend actually missed the whole of last season because of a knee injury but is now back to full fitness and has been training with the newly-promoted Clarets in pre-season.
And, according to Football Insider, he’s done enough during his few weeks at Burnley to be offered a deal by Vincent Kompany’s men.
The winger looks set to become the Turf Moor outfit’s 10th summer signing following their return to the top flight.
Zeki Amdouni, James Trafford, Jordan Beyer, Dara O’Shea, Michael Obafemi Luca Koleosho, Nathan Redmond and Lawrence Vigouroux have joined the club permanently, while Jacob Bruun Larsen is a loan arrival.
Townsend spent two years on Merseyside, scoring seven goals and adding four assists in 27 games in his first campaign at the club.
However, he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the final stages of the season and has been sidelined ever since.
Townsend a proven Premier League performer
The former England international has a decent record record in the Premier League though, notching 60 goal involvements in 264 games in total.
He will give Kompany’s men some valuable top-flight experience as they look to maintain their place in the top flight in the upcoming campaign.
Burnley start their 2023-24 season against Kompanmy’s old club Manchester City on August 11.
