West Brom ‘readying’ bid for £2m Cardiff City and Leeds United target, handpicked by Corberan
West Bromwich Albion are reportedly preparing an offer for FC Midtjylland striker Sory Kaba as they look to beat the likes of Cardiff City and Leeds United to his signature.
On loan with the Bluebirds last season, Kaba impressed with eight goals and one assist in 17 Championship outings. He was crucial in helping his side avoid relegation.
Upon his return to Denmark, the 28-year-old has continued his fine run with a goal in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying round and two appearances in Superligaen.
Now, though, he could be set for a return to England with a whole host of Championship clubs lining up approaches, including West Brom, who are desperate for a number nine.
Carlos Corberan has already outlined the need. “I think we have the responsibility to cover some positions better, specifically the number nine,” the head coach told Birmingham Live.
“It is something that we are going in the market to find because you cannot only depend on Asante. You need two players [in the position] to be competitive,” Corberan continued.
The Express & Star reported on Monday that the Baggies were interested in Kaba as an option for up top, while The Mirror (August 1, page 39) claims Albion will advance with an offer.
Competition will be fierce, however, as Leeds, Cardiff, Watford and two other Championship clubs are said to be eager to secure Kaba’s services in this transfer window.
Formerly a Guinea international with three goals in 21 caps, Kaba has 59 goals and 18 assists to his name in 163 career club appearances. Of those, 161 have been as a centre forward.

Cardiff City are poised to sign Nottingham Forest winger Josh Bowler on loan.
The Bluebirds have made five signings already this summer, prioritising the top end of the pitch, and Erol Bulut is about to make Bowler his sixth addition.
Reports emerged on Tuesday morning that Cardiff and Championship rivals Stoke City were keen on the player’s signature, but sources in Nottingham say the Bluebirds have won the race in what is another positive move for the club.
Reports emerged on Tuesday morning that Cardiff and Championship rivals Stoke City were keen on the player’s signature, but sources in Nottingham say the Bluebirds have won the race in what is another positive move for the club.
Cardiff have already recruited Karlan Grant, Yakou Meite, Ike Ugbo and Aaron Ramsey in those forward positions as they look to better their record in front of goal this season.
Bulut is closely connected with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who owns Greek giants Olympiacos where the Bluebirds manager spent a good chunk of his playing career. Bowler spent last season on loan at Olympiacos from Forest before heading to Blackpool for the second half of the season.
Bowler was reared at QPR before he signed for Everton in July 2017, but never made a senior appearance for the Merseyside club. It was at his next team, Blackpool, where he would begin to make a name for himself.
After netting 12 goals in 71 games for the Seasiders he became one of a spate of signings Steve Cooper made at Forest upon their promotion to the Premier League. Because of the numbers though he was pegged down in the pecking order and failed to make an appearance.
Bowler scored four goals for Blackpool last season, one of which came in the Bluebirds’ 3-1 win at Bloomfield Road. An announcement is expected as early as Tuesday afternoon.
