TOTTENHAM CLOSE IN ON £13M STRIKER SIGNING, ‘FORMAL OFFER’ MADE
Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal to sign Argentinian striker Alejo Veliz amid interest from elsewhere.
Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz looks set to join Tottenham Hotspur with a ‘formal offer’ now on the table.
That is according to top Argentinian reporter Cesar Luis Merlo, who claims that Tottenham are now advancing to sign Veliz.
It’s stated that Tottenham have already made a ‘formal offer’ to sign Veliz with a deal now moving closer.
Merlo adds that Rosario Central’s plan is for Veliz to stay until the end of 2023.
Their last fixture of the campaign comes in mid-November and Rosario Central want to keep Veliz.
That could mean a loan back to Argentina, or possibly the move to Spurs only goes through in January.
TyC Sports state that Tottenham could make that plan ‘unfeasible’ though as they are willing to pay Veliz’s €15million (£13million) release clause and bring him to London right now.
A club source has confirmed ‘there was an offer from an English football club’, far exceeding the offers from Italian clubs like AC Milan and Roma.
Tottenham appear to be on the verge of a deal here but there appears to be some confusion over just when Veliz would arrive.
Veliz hails from a very small town in Santa Fe calls Gödeken, just outside of Rosario.
After spending time in the ranks of MCSD Gödeken, Veliz joined the Rosario Central ranks in 2019.
Veliz has now racked up 62 first-team appearances for Rosario Central, notching 19 goals and two assists.
The 19-year-old has also bagged three goals in nine caps for the Argentina Under-20 side.
Veliz is a physical centre forward who has already shown the ability to play with his back to goal and be a real threat in the air.
Ange Postecoglou brought two physical centre forwards to Celtic in Giorgos Giakoumakis and Oh Hyeon-gyu and may see Veliz as a similar kind of talent.
The teenager looks to be a real talent for the future and Tottenham will now look to push home the deal, beating Jose Mourinho’s Roma in the process.
