Burnley trying to snatch £22m Sheffield United player

Sheffield United face a battle on their hands to keep Sander Berge now, with Burnley said to be keen on the midfielder.

After losing Iliman Ndiaye for around £16m last week, United are now facing up to the task of keeping Berge as well.

Like Ndiaye was, Berge is into the final 12 months of his contract and there is little sign of a new deal being agreed.

And according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, writing via his Patreon, Burnley are looking to snatch Berge from United

Nixon writes how Burnley could pay around £12m for Berge. The Norwegian is apparently looking for a pay rise at Bramall Lane and so far, that rise has not been forthcoming from the United board.

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath also backs up initial reports, saying talks have been held between the two clubs.

Burnley, then, are hoping they can tempt Berge with a big contract offer. Last seasons Championship winners are keen on adding midfielders before the window shuts.

Indeed, the Clarets are also said to be looking at one of United’s other targets, Vinicius Souza. The Brazilian is in England and looking to complete a move. The Blades are believed to be quite far down the line with the deal, but nothing is set just yet.

Sheffield United News View: We cannot lose Berge as well as Ndiaye

Selling Ndiaye was always going to happen as soon as Marseille got involved. The Senegalese forward wanted the move and there was little we could do really.

However, with Berge, we surely hold the cards for now. £12m is nothing for a player who we simply won’t replace, not for that money anyway.

If United do somehow sell Sander to a relegation rival, then Bramall Lane will be one unhappy stadium. Losing Ndiaye was bad enough, but losing the next best player is a nightmare.

Hopefully, this one goes away quickly and ideally, Berge pens fresh terms.

As reported by Foot Mercato in July, ESTAC Troyes and Burnley had agreed on a fee for the transfer of France youth international Wilson Odobert (18). The publication are now reporting that a full agreement has been reached and the forward is set to undergo his medical in the coming days.

Troyes, part of the City Group, struggled last season and were relegated to Ligue 2.  However, despite the club’s struggles, Odobert thrived, scoring seven goals and registering two assists in all competitions. The Ligue 2 campaign got underway over the weekend, but Odobert didn’t feature as Troyes drew against Dunkerque.

It is unlikely that he will feature for the club again as Foot Mercato have revealed that there is now a full agreement in place for Odobert’s transfer to Burnley. The France youth international will now undergo a medical ahead of his move to Vincent Kompany’s side. It has previously been reported that the deal is worth €11m.
