Player is reportedly now in East London for medical ahead of West Ham move

James Ward-Prowse is in London to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to West Ham United.

West Ham seem to be closing in on a move to sign James Ward-Prowse from Southampton, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the final stages of the deal have now been reached.

Hammers boss David Moyes needs to make a few more signings before the summer transfer window closes.

Edson Alvarez has already been announced whilst deals for Ward-Prowse and Harry Maguire are believed to have been agreed (The Guardian).

Fabrizio Romano claims that the Southampton skipper is closing in on a move to the Hammers this summer.

His ability from set-pieces should make us a very dangerous team from free-kicks and corners.

The 28-year-old is an incredibly hard-worker and has the leadership skills that we desperately lack.

Whilst he won’t be the marquee signing that many Hammers fans hoped for, the England international will do very well at the London Stadium.

West Ham signing Ward-Prowse this summer is a step in the right direction as far as I’m concerned.

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

The Brazilian international moved to the London Stadium from Ligue 1 club Lyon last summer, making 41 appearances in his debut season in claret and blue.

The midfielder scored five goals and chipped in with seven assists as the Hammers stayed in the Premier League and lifted the Europa Conference League trophy.

He is, however, reportedly being chased by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, with the player “very keen” on a switch to the Etihad [Sky Sports, 10 August].

The publication added that the 25-year-old has an £85million buy-out clause within his Hammers contract, but that can only be activated next summer.

Speaking to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “They all have that nowadays don’t they? It’s a good bit of business from West Ham.

“But I think there is an awful lot more to come from the player. I just think we’ve only seen a little bit of how good he is.

“It depends though, because he might be fed up with the way Moyes is playing, the way the team is playing.

“In terms of his body language, he walked off a couple of times last season disgusted with the way they were playing, you could tell.

“If that’s the case then yeah, move on, but I hope we get another year out of him at least, because he’s a good player, and is also good for the other players coming.”
