President confirms talks with Aston Villa to sell player – Villans told to offer ‘significantly higher’ fee

On Tuesday, we covered claims from Spain that Aston Villa have identified Sevilla’s Marcos Acuña as a target to strengthen the left-back position. It was also stated Unai Emery isn’t pleased with Lucas Digne, who could be offloaded before the window closes.

Later that day, Estadio Deportivo stated the Villans’ offer of €5m plus €2m bonuses was rejected by the La Liga side, who have requested €15m for the defender.

AS state Monchi is leading Aston Villa’s pursuit of the 31-year-old to please the manager.

Monchi, who left the Europa League winners for the English club this summer, signed the Argentina international for Sevilla in 2020. He now wants to bring him to Aston Villa.

Acuña, for his part, welcomes a move to Villa Park as it’ll give him an opportunity to earn perhaps the last big contract of his playing career.

It’s claimed the Premier League side are in negotiations with Sevilla for the fullback but it’s going to be a complicated operation due to the difference in valuation.

AS state Sevilla want a fee ‘significantly higher’ fee than what Emery’s side are willing to offer, which is around €5m plus €2m bonuses.

Sevilla president Pepe Castro has insisted his side haven’t received any offers from Aston Villa but confirmed talks with the English club for the South American.

“We don’t have any written offer from Monchi or Aston Villa, they are just conversations. Acuña is a world champion with Argentina, European champion with Sevilla and has a price,” he told El Partidazo de COPE.

“When an offer arrives, we will study it and if it helps us to improve the team and be able to bring in young players with projection, it is our business model. We are going to return to that business model, young players with projection and capital gains.

“If Monchi calls me, for Sevilla I will do what I have to do and what is good for the club.”

Villa lost Emi Buendia for a significant period of time after he sustained a serious knee injury last week and Zaniolo’s arrival will give Unai Emery another option in forward areas as his side look to compete on all four fronts this campaign, in the Premier League, the Europa Conference League and in the two domestic cup competitions.
