;Everton super striker refuses to shake Michail Antonio’s hand as Lucas Paqueta chat leaked
Tottenham striker
will refuse to shake Michail Antonio’s hand when he plays against West Ham this season. The Brazilian has seemingly not forgotten comments made by his rival last term.
Writing on their official website (16 August), the newspaper report that the Black Cats had been hoping to sign the 20-year-old forward but he now looks set to return to Preston.
Cannon spent the second half of last season at Deepdale and is being allowed to leave Goodison Park temporarily to get regular first-team football.
“Sunderland look set to miss out on a deal for Everton’s in-demand striker Tom Cannon, with the 20-year-old set to join Preston North End on loan this week,” they wrote.
“The Black Cats were among a host of clubs, including Championship rivals Leeds United, to be credited with interest in the youngster, as Tony Mowbray looks to address his side’s goalscoring issues.”
It had been expected for a while that this deal would be taking place sooner rather than later, but Everton had to be sure not to leave themselves short.
But with the season having begun, Cannon is clearly pushing to leave and play regularly and a return to Preston makes the most sense for him.
He knows how they want to play, he knows where he fits in, he knows the manager and he knows he can score goals in their setup.
Leeds and Sunderland were also looking at moves, with some suggestions a permanent exit could happen but a loan definitely suits everyone best and now we can watch him develop elsewhere for a season.
Cannon has a bright future and hopefully we’ll see him in the famous blue regularly one day, but for this season it’ll be Preston fans who get to enjoy him putting the ball in the back of the net regularly.
