Newcastle set to receive Besiktas offer – Player open to late exit – Sky SportsAccording to Sky Sports, Besiktas are showing ‘strong interest’ in a late move for Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles.
Sky reporter Dharmesh Sheth reveals that the Turkish giants are ‘expected to make a formal approach’ after identifying the centre-back as a top target
It’s believed Lascelles is happy on Tyneside but ‘open’ to a move away in search of more game time. The 29-year-old has been an unused substitute in our opening two games of the season and only started two games over the entire 2022/23 Premier League campaign.
It goes without saying, but any move for Lascelles would require the club to bring in another centre-back before next Friday’s 11pm deadline, as a right-sided option able to compete with Fabian
Besiktas
has been targeted all summer.
A lot may depend on Besiktas’ offer and the options available to us should a move go through. After all, we won’t sanction Lascelles’ sale if the right replacement isn’t available over the final week of the window.
Newcastle weighing up moves for £40m Spaniard and right-sided centre-back – Report. According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Newcastle United are considering a move for Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams – but any move for the attacker is ‘unlikely’ this summer.
he club are hoping to free up space on the wage bill over the coming weeks, with Ryan Fraser’s loan move to Southampton expected to be one of several late exits. However, no major outgoings are anticipated, meaning there’ll no funds generated to allow for another big signing.
Williams is a Spanish international winger who has been on the club’s radar for some time. Back in February, The Athletic revealed that we’d lined up a move for the 21-year-old prior to signing Everton’s Anthony Gordon.
Six months on, Douglas reveals that the £40m-rated talent remains firmly on our radar and could be one to watch in the next few windows. He’s started the new La Liga season with two assists in two games and was involved in 15 goals last season, also scoring once in eight appearances for his country.
A right-sided centre-back looks highly unlikely to arrive in the final seven days of the summer window, but iNews report that extensive analysis, scouting and ‘leg work’ will continue behind the scenes, with this likely to be a position we strengthen in January should the right deal emerge.
Who we target at centre-back remains a mystery, but we have been linked with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, Benfica’s Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice and Palace’s Joachim Andersen.
Sky Sports confirm medical on Friday as Newcastle United agree ninth summer exit
As revealed by Sky Sports News, Ryan Fraser is currently undergoing a medical at Southampton ahead of a move to St Mary’s.
It’s believed to be a season-long loan move for the 29-year-old, who will spend the 2023/24 campaign in the Championship following a fallout with Eddie Howe.
This will be the ninth outgoing we’ve seen at St James’ Park this summer. Allan Saint-Maximin, Chris Wood and Karl Darlow have all completed permanent exits, while we’ve already seen loans for Jamal Lewis, Yankuba Minteh, Garang Kuol, Harrison Ashby and Kell Watts.
Fraser has been training with our U21s since February and will be a welcome departure for Howe, especially when he takes home around £75,000 per week. Southampton won’t be paying his salary in full, but his exit will free up some room on the club’s wage bill.
Hopefully more fringe men find moves over the final week of the window, with Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick the next two we’ll be hoping to shift.
