DEADLINE DAY: Ipswich Town winger Kyle Edwards joins League One Oxford United on season-long loan
Ipswich Town winger Kyle Edwards has joined League One Oxford United on loan until the end of the season
The 25-year-old signed for Town in August 2021 and has played 63 times for the Tractor Boys since, scoring three goals.
In Blues’ promotion season last campaign, the winger only started three games and played a total of 767 minutes.
He has not featured in any of Ipswich Town’s matchday squads in all competitions at the start of this season and joins an Oxford side who sit top of the early League One table after five games.
This is the first notable bit of business at Portman Road so far this deadline day.

The free agent is being lined up for a potential reunion with former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna at Portman Road. However, the discussions will not be completed today and could continue over the upcoming international break. Players without a club prior to today’s deadline are not limited to the window’s restrictions and can agree a deal whenever suits both parties.
The 25-year-old is a product of the Manchester United youth system, where he progressed to the senior set up. He enjoyed three loan spells at Aston Villa but only managed 46 appearances during his time with the Villans. His future loan spells at Napoli and Stoke City continued his run of injury blighted campaigns totaling seven appearances between the two clubs.
The defender did impress in small spells with Manchester United however, including 90 minutes in the Champions League against a PSG team boasting Neymar, Mbappe and Di Maria. His career has been ravaged by injury affecting any consistent game time, which forced the League Cup winners to release the player, despite his promise.
Tuanzebe, has talent in abundance but his injuries are a serious concern. For every four or five positive games there are ten where he is unable to play. If his former coach is able to get the best out of him and keep him on the pitch, they have a Premier League defender on their hands to aid in their Championship campaign. However, I suspect he is more likely to spend time in the treatment room than on the grass. Ipswich won’t be in a rush and can negotiate over the extended break for the international fixtures.
