Joao Palhinha’s brother claims Fulham only ‘postponed’ rather than ‘killed’ the midfielder’s dream move to Bayern after the deal fell through ahead of schedule.
Joao Palhinha’s brother claims Bayern Munich transfer ‘postponed’
Portugal international Palhinha is desperate to land a ‘dream’ transfer
Fulham midfielder went to Germany for medical check-up before the deal failed
According to Joao Palhinha’s brother and agent, the failed transfer from Fulham to Bayern Munich was only ‘postponed’.
The Portuguese midfielder was at the Allianz Arena to complete his move to the Bundesliga champions on the final day but was pulled back by Fulham after failing to find a replacement.
Palhinha was not in Marco Silva’s squad for Saturday’s loss to Manchester City and will return to Craven Cottage after international duty.
“They don’t kill the dream, they just delay it,” said Master Goncalo Palhinha.
“So proud of my brother and the player I represent.
“
The agent praised Bayern’s “respect, honesty and professionalism” and added:
“Appreciation, recognition and thanks go to the entire Bayern structure.
The love for the club in our family will live on even if my brother doesn’t sign the contract.
Fulham boss Marco Silva said it was a ‘tough day’ for his countryman as the transfer fell through
Silva hopes Palhinha can quickly forget about the transfer defeat – while Fulham will have to put aside the deflation of the Etihad Stadium.
Nathan Ake gave City a 2-1 lead shortly before half-time but the Cottagers were angered by VAR’s pleas not to rule Manuel Akanji offside for interfering in the game.
Referee Michael Oliver was surrounded by Fulham players – who watched the replay on big screens at the Etihad – as the game took a while to resume, while Silva fumed on the touchline.
Tim Ream, who had equalized before, feels they cannot reach the same intensity as they destabilized Man City.
“I don’t think we were really there in the second half,” Ream said.
“We were not aggressive and handled the ball so neatly.
“When you’re not aggressive against a team like that, when you don’t put yourself in the lead, the game can slip out of your hands and that’s what we’ve seen.
“Going into the first half 2-1, you feel you played well.
Watching him turn against you is unacceptable.
From our point of view, that is clearly offside.
“We knew he was offside and the ball went straight to him.
He jumped on it.
It’s hard to understand.
Marco Silva was seething after Nathan Ake’s goal gave City the lead before half-time – with a lengthy VAR check in favor of Man City
Despite an early equalizer thanks to defender Tim Ream, it was a challenging day for the west London side.
