‘Fantastic’ Everton player now up for Premier League award despite not winning a game so far this season
Jordan Pickford has been nominated for the August Frugal of the Month award.
The Premier League has named the Everton goalkeeper as one of six candidates for his outstanding save in the Toffees’ 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers last month.
Pickford has struggled to impress this season, conceding eight goals in four appearances.
The goalkeeper also conceded a penalty in the 0-4 defeat to Aston Villa, before scoring an unfortunate own goal against Sheffield United.
However, there’s no denying Pickford has made some excellent saves for his club – especially the acrobatic when he held the ball against Wolves.
The 29-year-old could certainly have two nominations if his spectacular save against Sheffield United at the weekend had come two days earlier.
Jordan Pickford impresses despite difficult start for Everton
Sean Dyche has praised the England international despite conceding a lot of goals in the first month of the campaign.
After the draw with the Blades, he said:
“I think like everyone else, he’s had some question marks lately because the team have conceded some key moments, but I think it shows once again what a great goalkeeper he is.
how.
“I think his overall performance was very good.
Obviously he was unlucky with the second [hit the post and went behind].
And he made two great saves.
late game because that’s really important to do that.
However, Pickford’s save against Wolves did not receive much praise, with the main focus being on the Toffees’ failure to win points at home.
However, the goalkeeper will be delighted if he can add this award to his collection when he starts this season.
However, Pickford faced very stiff competition for the prize.
The former Sunderland player faces Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario (vs Manchester United), Wolves’ Jose Sa (vs Everton), Brentford’s Mark Flekken (vs Crystal Palace), West Ham’s Alphonse Areola (vs Brighton) and Liverpool’s Alisson (vs.
vs Newcastle).

Peter Ridsdale:
Everton ‘changed the rules of the game’ after the Tom Cannon deal
Preston North End manager Peter Ridsdale insists Everton have “changed scoring positions” after the clubs reached an agreement for Tom Cannon during the summer transfer window.
Cannon played on loan to Deepdale last season and was again wanted by the Championship team for the 2023-24 season.
However, after agreeing a loan fee for the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, the North End were asked to make an offer for a long-term contract.
Despite a record £7.
5m bid from [The Athletic], Preston missed out on second-tier rivals Leicester City to sign Cannon.
Providing further details on the transfer saga, Ridsdale told the Lancashire Post [September 6]:
“I guess our disappointment with Tom is that we reached an agreement early on – it was an expensive loan.
“Everton agreed but said the timing would be up to them, not us.
Then they changed the target last week to make it permanent.
“We then decided to make an offer but it was rejected.
We then made another offer and it was modified according to their request.
I have in writing, our offer has been accepted by Everton and permission to speak to him.
“And that would be four times our record transfer deal.
Then Tom called to say Leicester had arrived and that he was keen to come see them, with them being the favorites for promotion.
I can’t blame Everton
Some may question Everton’s decision to buy Cannon this summer, given his impact on the Championship last season.
The academy product, who won’t turn 21 until December, has scored eight goals and assisted another in 20 appearances for Preston in the second half of last season.
Another loan looks like a wise choice if Cannon is not competing for a starting spot at Goodison Park this season.
However, it is clear that many clubs are willing to pay a sizable sum for the Aintree-born striker.
