Ipswich Town are set to miss out on free agent signings
According to the Daily Mail, Ipswich Town appear to be about to miss out on the signing of former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe.
Manager Kieran McKenna had hoped to reunite with the 25-year-old after coaching the player during his time at Old Trafford, but it has been reported that the centre-back is currently in talks with La Liga side Real Betis.
Tractor Boys have been touted as a potential destination for the free agent and he is said to be on trial with the club.
Speaking last week, McKenna confirmed the two sides were negotiating;
“Axel is a player I know very well, a player with a very good foundation.
He’s the guy we’re talking to.
“He is still not fully recovered from his (back) injury, so we continue to discuss with him as this process continues.
“I can’t add much at this time.
We have a place available in our squad and Axel is a free agent and a great player who has played at a higher level and would appeal to any club, certainly at senior level.
this level.
“So we are talking to him and we will continue to talk to him and see if it is beneficial for us and if the player joins us at some point.
whether a certain point is the right thing or not.
”
Although at one point Ipswich appeared to be the favorites to secure his signature, reports from the Daily Mail claim that former Manchester City manager Manual Pellegrini is keen on taking Tuanzebe to Real Betis and negotiations on a potential deal have begun.
Premier League duo Sheffield United and Luton Town have also expressed interest, although the La Liga side are eligible to compete in European competition this season after progressing through the Europa League group stage.
The former England U21 international was released by Manchester United this summer after several years of struggling with injury problems.
A new beginning appears to be on the horizon, although it doesn’t look like it will take place on Portman Road. Writer’s point of view

Tuanzebe is a player who exudes quality but injury problems have stalled his career.
Depending on his ability to stay fit, he is a player who could be a real asset and many remember his superb outing against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in 2020, where he kept Kylian MBappe at bay in a player’s match performance
Ipswich hope the defender’s relationship with Kieran McKenna will be enough to lure him back to the Championship after a troubled loan spell with Stoke City last season, but the chance to play in Europe could be too tempting .
They may not be out of contention yet, but Tuanzebe may be taking his last shot at the highest level of football and have the chance to rebuild his career after a frustrating few years.
