Will Ipswich town miss Wes Burns?

Let’s say Wes Burns is out with a hamstring strain, how will that affect our season and how much will we miss him? Can not say.

First of all, we don’t know how serious it is. It could be nothing more than a mild tear – or something much more debilitating that could keep him out of action for weeks or even months! Anyone who has ever played football knows that sudden, intense pain in the back of the thigh and in the worst cases, the level of discomfort can be terrible! Wales manager Rob Page sent him back to Ipswich not wanting to aggravate his injury by getting more involved, suggesting it might not be that serious. Let us hope so anyway.

The next question is much easier to answer, and that is who will replace him? Omari Hutchinson is the obvious choice. He has pace to burn and he is very skillful. Some people might even argue that this 19-year-old is as good if not better than the Welshman. He may be on loan and aspire to play at a much higher level, but when I look at him I see a player who really wants to impress! Although born in England, Hutchinson is of Jamaican descent.

He was an England youth international at under-17 and under-19 level, but switched allegiance to Jamaica and made his official debut for them in a 1-0 defeat to Trinidad-and-Tobago on March 11, 2023. He had his first match. Made his professional debut on January 5, 2023, in a 1-0 home loss to Manchester City. He has a bright future in the game and I think he can prove to be a real asset this season for Town. Saturday, at Sheffield Wednesday, he has the chance to prove me right!

Hopefully CEO Mark Ashton doesn’t rest on his laurels and has some deals close to being completed, but the final day of the transfer window is always a nervous time for players, coaches, and staff. Team management and supporters. It’s time to decide!

So who do we think could end up on Portman Road? Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt has been mentioned by a number of sources as a real possibility, and perhaps the road to Jesurun Rak-Saki hasn’t gone completely cold just yet. We definitely need another striker, but ideally one with more experience than loan players Omari Hutchinson and Dane Scarlett. They have a bright future, but what we need is here and now!

George Edmundson was the man responsible for Reading’s late equalizer in the Carabao Cup, and watching him over the years, it always seemed like there was a mistake waiting to happen. He may have the experience but I’m not entirely convinced he can progress to Championship level. That leaves Cameron Burgess, Luke Wollfenden and Elkan Baggott making rapid progress. This is not enough and we need another experienced centre-back – otherwise we could lack results. The same goes for the scoring department. I would like to see an
