JUST IN;Preston North End super player screened out for serious injury

Ryan Lowe confirmed the absence of PNE loanee Calvin Ramsay

The right-back has been the talk of North End fans since Ryan Lowe’s arrival in 2021.

Lowe likes to play with full-backs, but PNE doesn’t really have a natural option other than Matthew Olosunde, who hasn’t been rated highly under Lowe.

Brad Potts has finally emerged at fullback and has gone from strength to strength there of late.

However, Lowe wants another option and secured an interesting deal for Liverpool talent Calvin Ramsay.

Calvin Ramsay arrives with real enthusiasm

Ramsay has come of age at local club Aberdeen, producing some very entertaining attacking displays. Liverpool pounced in the summer of 2022, signing Ramsey for £4m, rising to £6.5m.

The Red Devils clearly see Ramsay as a long-term addition and believe he has the ability to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Unfortunately, Ramsay had some real injury problems last season, as back and knee problems hindered his development at Anfield.

It was hoped that playing regularly in the Championship would help Ramsay get back up to speed, but his time at the PNE was also affected by injury.

However, the Scot suffered a setback in August when PNE confirmed the injury would rule him out for six to eight weeks. We’re now about four weeks away and it turns out that Ramsay will be gone longer than expected.

Today Lowe confirmed that Ramsay will be out of action for “a few more months”, taking us to November and December.

Lowe added that Ramsay is now back at Liverpool and recovering from injury, but will stay at PNE when he is ready.

It’s a huge blow to PNE fans, who were excited to see Ramsay playing at right-back, and everyone will just hope Potts can avoid injury.

Former Preston North End captain Tom Clarke has announced his retirement from football after a persistent knee injury. The 35-year-old played for Halifax Town but the club confirmed that on the advice of his doctor, Clarke reluctantly decided to hang up his boots.

The defender will of course be remembered for two iconic moments. Scored the winning goal against Blackpool in 2013, just a few games into his career at Preston. Stopping at the far post to take Lee Holmes’s free kick in League Cup first round.

Then, two years later, he lifted the League One play-off trophy at Wembley after Preston comfortably beat Swindon 4-0. Tom Clarke was an integral part of the Simon Grayson era and was an old-fashioned captain who led from the back. An important voice on and off the field, Clarke went on to lead North End to the Championship.

Bailey Wright and Paul Huntington developed a good partnership with Clarke, making Preston’s defense often difficult to break down. His appearances for the team began to decline under Alex Neil, partly due to injury.

He eventually left the club in the summer of 2020 after making 247 appearances and scoring 15 goals for the club. Clarke arrives from Huddersfield Town after playing under Grayson at the club. Both would go on to bring success to Deepdale and Clarke could truly call Preston home.

Super Tommy Clarke had a season with Salford City and Fleetwood Town after leaving North End. It was Graham Alexander who brought him to Salford in League Two before returning to League One with Cod Army. Simon Grayson was Fleetwood’s manager at the time and couldn’t resist the opportunity to work with Clarke again. The defender then signed for hometown club Halifax Town last summer.

Injury limited him to just 11 appearances for The Shaymen, a major embarrassment for Clarke, who was the team’s captain.
