Wigan Athletic FC - Thelo Aasgaard | “I pride myself on doing that little bit in training, so moments like that I can deliver"

But after several weeks of hard work on the training ground during the international break, Aasgaard is back in the crucial number 10 position.

The Latics boss has had two weeks to reflect on back-to-back defeats to Barnsley and Blackpool, making for a superb start to a campaign that has seen a 10-point comeback from the first four games.

Maloney wants to research how Latics can better defeat opponents who simply “sit still”, instead of looking to attack. It will be where Latics supporters come together in a friendly, comfortable environment to eat, drink, enjoy some food and lots of fun entertainment!

Indeed, after reviewing video evidence, Latics boss Shaun Maloney believes the club have “a strong case” to overturn the decision.

However, an FA executive committee – comprising Tony Agana (chairman), Luke Swindlehurst and Mick Kearns – decided not to overturn the sending-off, which ruled Hughes out of the trip to Blackpool on the 2nd. September.

And now the club has received a document explaining this decision.

“For an unfair dismissal claim to succeed, the player and/or his club must prove, through the evidence they adduce, that the referee made a clear mistake in sending the player off, ” it said in the report.

“The onus is on the player and/or his club to prove it. “The role of the Regulatory Commission is not to usurp the role of the Arbitrator but simply to re-arbitrate the case.

“In his official report, the referee, Mr. Sebastian Stockbridge, stated:
“I must report that, as referee, I sent off Hughes, Charles Roger of Wigan Athletic FC, under Section 12:
S5′.

“The club presented high-quality television footage as evidence showing the incident being covered from three different angles, along with detailed arguments supporting this claim.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the committee viewed all video and written submissions prior to the hearing and considered all of the evidence in determining this charge.

“The IFAB Rules of the Game (Rule 12) relating to DOGSO state that a player, substitute or substitute shall be sent off if:
“……. deny a goal or a clear scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the goal of the foul through an offense punishable by a direct free kick……” . “On viewing television footage of the incident, the Committee first considered whether (CRH) Hughes’s defiant behavior was indeed a foul and had a detailed discussion on this point.

“A member of the panel felt that CRH legitimately won the ball and that the attacking player’s own momentum was a factor in his fall.

“However, the remaining two members of the board said that the video showed that CRH committed the error of raising his leg after touching the ball, causing the attacking player to fall.

“Thus, by the decision of the majority, it is found that wrongdoing has indeed been committed.

“Next, the Committee examined whether, after committing a foul, CRH denied their opponents a clear scoring opportunity. “In determining this, the Board considered the following factors:
distance between offense and target; general direction of the room; probability of the attacker retaining or gaining control of the ball; as well as the location and number of guards.
