John Bennett retires from Janus Henderson to focus on Rangers FC
John Bennett, head of European equities and portfolio manager of Janus Henderson’s long/short Continental and European strategies, is expected to retire from Janus Henderson Investors and the asset management industry in August 2024.
Following more than four decades in the industry, Bennett will step down and focus his energy on running Rangers Football Club, of which he is a lifelong supporter and chair of the board. Over his final year in industry, Bennett will remain engaged in his current role and support the team’s transition until his departure next year. Barry Robson has overseen a major rebuild and told the frustrated Aberdeen support that his new-look side will come good.
The Dons, after the home defeat to Hibs, sit joint-bottom of the table with just two points from their first four games. Robson knows there is a frustration around Pittodrie but with 13 signings and European Conference League football he has insisted it will take time to get his new-look outfit up and running.
Robson, as his team were booed at full-time, said: “I understand the fans want to win every game but we need a bit of patience. We’ll get better game by game. We’re in Europe and we need to accept that. The other teams we’re going to face, most of them aren’t, but we will be alright. You’ve seen glimpses of what we can do against Hacken and Celtic where we were outstanding. The other games have caught us out.
“I’ve heard everyone speak about Rangers starting a new rebuild. I’ve not heard anybody say we had eight loan players and I’ve had to start a whole new squad. We need time to get going as a team and we need to do it on the job.”
Robson, who refused to rule out further signings, admitted his team looked tired after everything they had put in against BK Hacken on Thursday night. He added: “The distance we covered in the game on Thursday then playing in that heat today caught up with us but Hibs were the same and they managed it a bit better than we did.
“It’s frustrating when you have 26 shots on goal on Thursday then watch at times today and see us struggling to get there. You’ve got to be patient and work the ball a bit more and we didn’t do that to our best.
