David Ornstein says Tottenham’s next signing won’t be a ‘big name’
Tottenham Hotspur could soon appoint a new director of football, but don’t expect it to be a big name. Apparently the club is looking for a “simple” addition to the current structure.
There seems to be a very clear change in Tottenham’s direction at the moment. With new manager Ange Postecoglou impressing on debut, things are also going quite well for the north London club.
Postecoglou can’t do it all on his own, however, and will now have help from above in the form of his new Chief Football Officer, Scott Mun.
The long-awaited arrival of the Australian will help fill the void left by former Director of Football Fabio Paratici. The Italian had to leave his post in April after being found guilty of involvement in Juventus’ financial scandal.
It seems Daniel Levy still wants to tweak and add to the hierarchy at Spurs, and we could see an appointment of an official Director of Football in the near future.
In a Q+A held by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, the topic of Spurs’ plans came up and the journalist was able to shed some light on the situation.
He said: “I’m told Spurs have a plan in place. I don’t have a name but the last I heard the appointment is expected to be relatively low-key – a bit like Postecoglou – rather than a huge name.
“The club will hope the new man fits in fairly seamlessly to the new structure being implemented by Daniel Levy and Scott Munn.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The club is currently acting really sensibly and it is reassuring to hear that everything is seemingly being done with the idea of complementing Ange Postecoglou and his approach to finding success for Spurs.

Juventus are continuing to pursue a potential deal for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and ‘contacts continue’ over the transfer.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say a transfer will over happen in January if the player continues to stay out of Tottenham’s first team.
The midfielder has found himself out of the picture under Ange Postecoglou at the beginning of this season, with the Australian coach preferring Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr as his midfield two.
It means Hojbjerg has barely featured and rumours about a potential exit, which were also there in the summer transfer window, have already started.
Juventus are the club who have been linked throughout this week as they plan for the potential long-term loss of Paul Pogba due to a doping ban.
Gazzetta continue that today and say there is ‘a certain movement’ in the Italian side’s midfield and ‘contacts continue’ for Hojbjerg. Whether that is with the player or Tottenham isn’t made clear but it’s likely the former given the player’s agent has been travelling around for meetings of late.
Anyway, the newspaper explains that any move for him will depend on the situation of the player and Tottenham come December.
If he continues to be an alternative for Postecoglou and not a starter, the Bianconeri will have a better chance of getting a deal to the finish line.
They would prefer a loan with an option, maybe an obligation, to buy but that’s a formula Spurs aren’t willing to evaluate at this moment in time. That can always change, of course, and it is very much a case of Juventus biding their time at this point.
